Hydrophilic waterstop
Waterstop is a hydrophilic rubber-based product that acts as a water penetration barrier in construction joints. It has a very high swelling capacity and functions in a controlled manner when in contact with water. It maintains its shape and performance through multiple wet and dry cycles.
Properties and Effects:
- The waterstop is made of synthetic rubber-based hydrophilic materials and acts as a water penetration barrier in construction joints with a very high swelling capacity.
- It has high flexibility and easy installation.
- It does not require overlapping or welding during installation.
- It maintains its initial performance throughout its service life and its flexibility and deformability allow it to quickly fill any voids and cracks around it.
- It creates a seamless, overlap-free, and non-disintegrating waterstop strip.
- It is non-toxic.
- It can be applied on uneven surfaces.
- It is resistant to repeated wetting and drying cycles.
- It creates a controlled swelling in response to the concrete's age.
- It swells in saltwater and seawater.
- It has an open V-shaped profile that provides good engagement with the concrete.
Applications:
- Designed to be installed as a water barrier in construction joints in reinforced and non-reinforced concrete.
- The hydrophilic material can be used in both horizontal and vertical applications, but should never be used in expansion joints.
- Sealing around various types of pipes.
Installation Procedure:
All surfaces must be dry, clean, and free of any contamination, loose particles, oil, etc. before installation.
Due to the importance of adhesion between the hydrophilic waterstop and concrete, the use of adhesive is recommended for attachment.
For added security, steel nails can be used to fix the waterstop in place.
But the edges tightly together without the need for overlapping.
For applications around pipes or similar, the use of wire ties in addition to adhesive is recommended.
