Microsilica

Explanation:

The use of micro silica in ready-mixed concrete has recently gained attention from construction engineers, particularly in coastal areas. This is due to the unique pozzolanic properties of micro silica, which can improve the mechanical properties and increase the durability of concrete in advanced countries. Micro silica is a byproduct of electric arc furnaces in the production of ferrosilicon alloys and contains over 90% silica in an amorphous state and fine particles with an average size of 0.1 microns. It is highly pozzolanic and suitable for use as a cementitious material in concrete, compatible with ASTM C1240.

Advantages :

Adding micro silica to the concrete mixture causes the free calcium hydroxide (CA(OH)2) solution in the pores of the concrete to react with the SiO2 in the micro silica, forming insoluble calcium silicate hydrate (C-S-H) gels, which leads to a denser structure, reduced permeability, and increased strength and durability of the concrete. The micro silica improves the bond between the cement paste and aggregates, increasing the resistance of the concrete to abrasion, sulfate attack, and chemical attack.

Usage:

Execution of concrete works in coastal areas, docks, and bridges

Construction of high-strength concrete

Construction of dams, channels, tunnels, reservoirs, and water sources

Flooring and pavement

The consumption of micro silica:

In concrete is between 5% to 10% of the weight of cement. It is important to note that micro silica has a water-reducing property, so it must be used with a water-reducing admixture to prevent the concrete from drying out and reducing its workability and durability. Otherwise, it can cause the concrete to dry out, reduce its workability, and prevent its proper compaction.

The method of consumption:

Mix the necessary amount of micro silica with the dry components when making concrete, then add water and a super plasticizer to it.

Technical Specifications:

Physical state: Pozzolanic powder

Color: Light gray

Specific weight: 250 grams per cubic centimeter

Particle shape: Spherical and non-crystalline (amorphous)

Storage:

Micro silica can be stored away from cold, heat, and moisture for up to one year. Neglecting proper storage methods can damage the product or its packaging.

Safety points:

Like all chemical products, care should be taken to avoid contact with eyes, mouth, skin, and food. In case of contact with skin and eyes, immediately rinse with water for 15 minutes and seek medical attention. If accidentally swallowed, medical measures should be taken. Close containers after use and refer to the product safety brochure for information on special storage or disposal of remaining materials.

Packaging:

The product is available in 25 and 40-kilogram bags or in 1-ton jumbo bags.

Quality approval:

All products offered by the Iranian Technical and Specialized Concrete Clinic comply with international quality standards.
